Sharing: What to do when Damsel in Distress?
Stress, stress, stress. I just can’t help it but I feel like almost everyday, my eyebrows meet all the time. (~,~) *sighs* It has been a tough and a rough week and I still have this hangover from loans we have processed these past few days. (The process is getting harder and more complicated!) Well, this is the mortgage industry. And I would say, I still have to thank God coz it’s such a wonderful opportunity for me to work as a processor and be part of JPMC. @_@
Are you familiar with a Damsel in Distress? In our classic modern world, I would say I count myself as one. When I was researching online, I found one definition on this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damsel_in_distress
The subject of the damsel in distress, or persecuted maiden, is a classic theme in world literature, art, and film. She is usually a beautiful young woman placed in a dire predicament by a villain or a monster and who requires a hero to dash to her rescue. She has become a stock character of fiction, particularly of melodrama.
The word “damsel” derives from the French demoiselle meaning “young lady”. It is an archaic term not used in modern English except for effect or in expressions such as this, which can be traced back to the knight errant of Medieval songs and tales, who regarded the saving of such women as an essential part of his raison d’être.
The helplessness of the damsel in distress, who can be portrayed as foolish and ineffectual to the point of naïvety, along with her need for others (mostly men) to rescue her, has made the stereotype the target of feminist criticism.
In a classic world of literature, Damsel in Distress is one huge fantasy that writers invented out of their creative minds. But like I said, on a modern world like this I would say, I count my self as one big Damsel in Distress. Trapped and imprisoned in one huge hole called sin. Darlene Zschech said; “An overcomer is the one who resists the schemes and temptations of the enemy”. However I can’t find myself on that track coz it’s either I so not overcome, or I intentionally let my self be soaked into sin again. That’s what Damsel in Distress means for me. A self-confessed christian who is trapped inside the devil’s box.
But one thing reminds me that there is hope, freedom, forgiveness and a brighter future within. I found such with God’s love. I remember when I was still a leader; I used to take pleasure with Godly things and deceit with evil things. Especially when I learned that Jesus has always been the reason why the penalty for my sins has been paid and I was not the one who was penalized and crucified. One night, I felt my heart was almost crushed when I was longing for God’s presence that I used to linger everyday and every moment of my life. Then I reached to my I-pod, searched for the song “I Will Sing” by Lakewood Church. As I was listening to the song, I was gradually reminded how God has been taking good care of me even to the point that I am in the worst pot and that how God made the best out of me even to my darkest sides. And as I went on listening, I closed my eyes and from there, I felt God’s embrace which I missed for so long and I just can’t stop crying from there.
I would like to share the same experience from what I had. The only hero we could have when in distress is God’s love and knowing that Jesus has been crucified for our own sake. And this is the good news regardless of how bitter and painful our life has been, whether we fail or we succeed. But sometimes, we are too stubborn to realize and to appreciate what God has been offering us in return of our love and obedience. J.S. Lewis said; “Our obedience is our basis of how we love God”. Furthermore, nothing has ever been most beautiful but God’s grace and mercy that endures and is always in a fresh start. This is what I realized; God’s love brings freedom, liberty, hope and a brighter future ahead. God’s grace keeps us moving even when we are at the top most fragile consequence of what sin, in our lives has been.
So here, sing with me as we feel and enjoy God’s glorious love. And as we sing this song, let’s make it as a prayer of song that God will sustain us as we go on through the faces of life…
I will sing of Your great love
I will stand in wonder of
What You’ve done in this life
With my song testify
I will live and not die to declare
Lord You are good and I will sing
Your mercy endures it’s everlasting
Lord You are good and I will sing
A song of worship
Lord You are worthy to receive
Dominion and power, Honor and majesty
Lord You are good and I will sing of Your great love
I will sing of Your Mercy
I will sing of Your love
I will sing of your tenderness
And tell the wonders of
I will sing of Your goodness
I will sing of Your grace
I will sing of Your holiness
And melodies and praise
